Bihar Flood Situation Improves As River Levels Recede, Relief Operations Continue

Relief operations continue across 15 districts, with 1,221 community kitchens serving flood-affected residents.

Patna: Water levels in several major rivers in Bihar are receding or stabilising, while the Disaster Management Department continues to monitor the flood situation and coordinate relief and rescue operations across 15 districts.

According to the department, around 47.33 lakh people have been affected by floods across 566 gram panchayats in 87 blocks of Patna, Bhojpur, Saran, Vaishali, Bhagalpur, Begusarai, Buxar, Samastipur, Munger, Katihar, Lakhisarai, Khagaria, Purnea, Arwal and Madhepura.

River Levels Show Mixed Trends

The department said the Gandak and Kosi rivers remained stable, while the Sone recorded a declining trend.

At the Valmikinagar Barrage, the Gandak’s discharge was recorded at 86,000 cusecs, while the Kosi’s discharge at Birpur Barrage stood at 1,41,295 cusecs. The Sone’s discharge at Indrapuri Barrage was 67,737 cusecs and was showing a declining trend.

The Water Resources Department’s Ganga Sone Flood Protection Division reported that the Ganga’s water level was declining at Digha Ghat, Gandhi Ghat, Maner and Hathidah in Patna, as well as in Munger. The level remained steady at Buxar.

The Ganga continues to flow above the danger mark at Maner, Digha Ghat, Gandhi Ghat, Hathidah and Munger. Other rivers, including the Gandak at Dumariaghat, Kosi at Baltara and Kursela, Burhi Gandak at Khagaria, Punpun at Sripalpur, Baghmati at Benibad and Ghaghara at Darauli and Gangpur Siswan, are also above the danger mark.

Community Kitchens Continue

A total of 1,221 community kitchens are currently operating in flood-affected districts. The department said more than 59.73 lakh plates of meals have been served to affected people so far.

Food, accommodation and medical facilities have also been arranged for 12,260 flood victims at 15 relief camps.

Relief Supplies And Rescue Operations

The department said 3.13 lakh polythene sheets and 48,400 dry-ration packets have been distributed among flood-affected families. Around 10,823 quintals of cattle feed have also been supplied.

To support evacuation and transportation, 1,876 boats are currently operating across the affected areas.

The department has deployed 27 State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams and 10 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams in various districts to strengthen relief and rescue operations.
