Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on September 28 conducted an aerial survey of flood-affected areas in Vaishali, Saran, East Champaran and Gopalganj, and inspected the rising water level of the Gandak River at Dumariaghat.
During the visit, the Chief Minister reviewed the latest flood situation with officials and took an update on ongoing relief and rescue operations in the affected areas.
Gandak Water Level Above Danger Mark
At Dumariaghat, Choudhary inspected the Gandak River and was briefed by officials about the rising water level.
Officials told him that the Gandak at Dumariaghat was around 1.5 metres above the danger mark. The water level was also expected to rise by approximately 50 centimetres overnight, according to the assessment shared during the inspection.
The Chief Minister directed officials to maintain continuous surveillance of vulnerable and low-lying areas and ensure that relief and rescue operations are carried out without delay.
Night Patrol Ordered Along Embankments
Choudhary directed the Water Resources Department to maintain continuous monitoring of embankments and take all necessary precautionary measures.
Officials were specifically instructed to ensure night patrolling along embankments and remain alert to any emerging risks.
The district administrations were also directed to maintain close coordination with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and take immediate action according to local requirements.
Relief Camps And Community Kitchens To Continue
The Chief Minister directed officials to ensure that essential assistance reaches affected residents without delay.
He said the administration should remain in close contact with people in the affected areas and give priority to relief and rescue operations.
Officials were instructed to continue providing food and other assistance through flood relief camps and community kitchens and ensure that there is no lapse in relief arrangements.
Senior Officials Accompany CM
Deputy Chief Minister and Water Resources Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary, MP Radha Mohan Singh, MLA Krishnanandan Paswan, Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary Deepak Kumar, Chief Secretary Pratyaya Amrit and Water Resources Department Secretary Dr Chandrashekhar Singh were present during the inspection.
East Champaran District Magistrate Saurabh Suman Yadav, Gopalganj District Magistrate Sameer Saurav, East Champaran Superintendent of Police Swarn Prabhat and Gopalganj Superintendent of Police Vinay Tiwari were also present.
The Chief Minister’s directions focused on continuous monitoring of vulnerable areas, faster relief and rescue operations, embankment surveillance and coordination among district authorities and disaster-response agencies as the Gandak water level continues to remain a concern.
