Patna: Dense fog and wintry weather continued to paralyse rail movement across Bihar on Saturday, with long-distance trains running many hours behind schedule and passengers facing prolonged delays at stations across Patna and surrounding sections.
According to railway officials, poor visibility forced trains to operate at sharply reduced speeds as safety protocols kicked in, triggering cascading delays across major routes linking eastern and northern India.
Among the worst hit was the Rajendra Nagar Tejas Rajdhani Express, which arrived around 13 hours late. The Howrah Rajdhani Express was delayed by nearly 17 hours, while the Sampoorna Kranti Express reached Patna more than 13 hours behind schedule. Several other services, including festival specials and overnight trains, were also caught in the disruption.
The Patna-bound Puja Special from Udhna arrived roughly 11 hours and 30 minutes late, while the Rajendra Nagar Amrit Bharat Express was delayed by around 15 hours. The Magadh Express, a key link between Bihar and Delhi, ran about 11 hours late.
Delays were not limited to premium services. The Buxar Weekly Superfast train reached its destination six hours behind schedule, while the Brahmaputra Mail was delayed by six hours and 44 minutes. The Kumbh Express arrived nearly seven hours late, and the Garib Rath Express by about four hours. Even shorter-haul services were affected, with the Kota–Patna Express running around an hour late.
Other trains impacted included the Mysore Puja Special, delayed by more than 10 hours, the Islampur–Hatia Express by over six hours, the Farakka Express by six hours, and the Howrah Duronto Express by more than seven hours.
Railway officials said dense fog along key sections had sharply reduced visibility, compelling drivers to slow down trains as a precaution. Passengers were advised to check real-time train running information before starting their journeys, as similar conditions are likely to persist until visibility improves.
