Darbhanga: The Bihar government has started a new scheme that will give 125 units of electricity free every month to all domestic consumers, including those living in rented houses. This benefit is being provided under the Chief Minister’s Electricity Consumer Assistance Scheme and will help lakhs of families in districts like Darbhanga and Madhubani.
More than 11.6 lakh people in these two districts will get this benefit. This includes over 2.6 lakh people in Darbhanga rural, 2.6 lakh in Benipur, and 2.2 lakh in Jhanjharpur. If any household uses more than 125 units in a month, they will only need to pay for the extra electricity. All energy, fixed, and other charges for up to 125 units will be completely waived.
Tenants will also be able to get this benefit if they have a proper electricity connection or sub-meter under NBPDCL. Many people had doubts about whether tenants could be included, but the department has clearly said they will be.
The government is also planning to install solar panels for free at the homes of poor families. These solar systems will be installed over the next three years, starting with Kutir Jyoti (BPL) consumers. Financial help will also be given to other households who want to install solar panels. The aim is to save electricity bills and promote clean energy across the state.
