Patna: The Bihar government has announced a new initiative to provide free foreign language training to young people, a move aimed at improving their access to global employment opportunities and making them more competitive in the international job market.
Under the programme, run through the Bihar Skill Development Mission, students will be trained in languages such as German, Japanese, Korean, and Arabic in addition to English. Officials stated that the courses would cover both basic and practical communication skills, enabling learners to apply these skills in professional and workplace settings.
The scheme forms part of the state’s broader efforts to strengthen youth employability by aligning skills training with the demands of a rapidly globalising economy. While English remains important, authorities say knowledge of additional foreign languages has become increasingly essential for securing jobs in multinational companies, foreign embassies, the IT industry, tourism, translation services, business process outsourcing, and manufacturing.
According to the Youth, Employment, and Skill Development Department, the training will be offered entirely free of cost to ensure that young people from economically weaker backgrounds are not excluded. The aim is to remove financial barriers and make high-value language skills accessible to a wider section of society.
Officials said the programme would also help students who wish to pursue higher education or employment abroad, where proficiency in local or regional languages is often a key requirement. By incorporating language training into existing vocational and technical courses, the government aims to expand the career options available to Bihar’s youth.
The Bihar Skill Development Mission has already been playing a central role in providing technical and professional training across the state. The addition of foreign language education is expected to strengthen its impact by broadening the skill base of young people and enhancing their confidence.
State authorities view language not only as a tool for communication but also as an instrument of economic empowerment. They believe the initiative will help Bihar’s youth gain recognition on national and international platforms, while contributing to the state’s long-term vision of self-reliance and sustainable employment growth.
