Patna: The Bihar government has launched an initiative aimed at providing government jobs and employment opportunities to one crore (10 million) young people, with all departments directed to prepare detailed action plans outlining both current and future employment-generation efforts.
Under the initiative, each department will appoint a nodal officer to coordinate and compile information on steps being taken to create new jobs and livelihood opportunities. The exercise is intended to map existing initiatives, identify untapped potential and align future programmes towards the broader employment target.
According to officials, the Youth, Employment and Skill Development Department has written to additional chief secretaries, principal secretaries and secretaries of all state departments, asking them to submit comprehensive plans. These plans are to specify the areas in which departments are already working to generate employment, as well as sectors they intend to focus on in the coming years.
The nodal officers will be responsible for collecting data on job creation initiatives within their departments and ensuring systematic coordination across government programmes. Officials said the aim was to create a consolidated and realistic roadmap that explores “all possibilities and options” for employment generation in the state.
Names have been sought from all departments for the appointment of nodal officers, and appointments have already been made in the agriculture department and several others, officials said. The information gathered will be used to monitor progress and align departmental efforts with the government’s broader commitment to expanding job opportunities for Bihar’s youth.
Senior officials said the initiative reflects the state government’s focus on employment as a key development priority, with the coordinated approach intended to improve planning, accountability and outcomes across departments.
