Patna: The Bihar government has announced a major initiative to improve the quality of education in government schools by introducing modern teaching facilities. Under this plan, 789 secondary and higher secondary government schools across the state will be upgraded with smart classrooms, laboratories and libraries. The decision has been approved by the Bihar cabinet and is being described as a significant step towards providing better learning opportunities to students studying in classes 6 to 12.
The proposal was cleared during a cabinet meeting held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of chief minister Nitish Kumar. A total of 41 agendas were approved in the meeting, including this education-focused plan. According to additional chief secretary Arvind Chaudhary, the cabinet has sanctioned Rs 1,485.85 crore for the project. The scheme will be implemented in the 2025–26 financial year and will follow the guidelines of the National Education Policy 2020.
Through this initiative, the government aims to promote modern education, technical knowledge, innovation and skill development among students in government schools. The upgraded facilities are expected to make classrooms more interactive and help students become technically literate from an early stage. Officials say the goal is to ensure that children studying in government schools receive an education comparable to that offered by private institutions.
The Bihar government has been taking several steps in recent years to strengthen the education system, especially as concerns are often raised about the quality of teaching and infrastructure in government schools. By investing heavily in modern facilities, the government hopes to rebuild public confidence in state-run schools and create a better learning environment for students across Bihar.
Apart from education, the cabinet meeting also approved several other important proposals. These included 694 new appointments in the agriculture department and recruitment for various posts in other departments. Funds worth Rs 314 crore 20 lakh 59 thousand were approved for the construction of Bihar Bhawan in Mumbai. In addition, land acquisition near Darbhanga airport for a logistics park and cargo hub was cleared, with Rs 138 crore 82 lakh 88 thousand sanctioned as compensation.
