Patna: The Bihar government has upgraded the ranks of 26 Indian Police Service (IPS) officers, issuing orders on the final day of the year that clarify the promotions will not entail any change in postings.
According to the Home Department notification, the officers will continue to serve in their existing roles despite the elevation in rank.
Kundan Krishnan, currently posted as additional director general (ADG) headquarters, has been promoted to the rank of director general (DG). He will, however, retain his present responsibilities as ADG headquarters, ADG operations and special officer at the resident commissioner’s office in Delhi.
Three deputy inspectors general (DIGs) — Manoj Kumar (Kosi range, Saharsa), Sanjay Kumar (cyber crime and the Economic Offences Unit), and Vivekananda (Special Task Force) — have been promoted to the rank of inspector general (IG). All three will continue in their current assignments.
The order also promotes 22 officers to the rank of DIG. Among them are Avkash Kumar, commandant of Bihar Special Armed Police-1 in Patna; Anand Kumar, senior superintendent of police (SSP), Gaya; Kumar Ashish, SSP, Saran; and Ravi Ranjan Kumar, commandant of the Home Guards. Others promoted include officers heading railways police units, special armed police battalions, the anti-terrorism squad, the vigilance investigation bureau, and various district and specialised units.
The government said the decision was part of routine cadre management, emphasising that the promotions were personal to rank and did not create vacancies or alter the existing administrative structure.
