Rajgir: Nalanda University in Rajgir, Bihar, welcomed the Governor of Bihar on May 4, 2026, in a formal and well-organised visit. The Governor, Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Syed Ata Hasnain, was given a guard of honour on arrival. After the ceremonial welcome, he toured the campus and took a close look at its academic buildings, research areas, and development projects. University officials shared updates on how the institution is working to rebuild the legacy of ancient Nalanda in a modern form.
During his interaction with students and teachers, the Governor spoke about the importance of India’s ancient knowledge systems. He said that old philosophical ideas are still relevant today and can guide students in solving modern problems. He encouraged students to connect traditional learning with current global needs so that education becomes more meaningful and balanced.
The Governor also invited students to take part in upcoming programmes at Bihar Lok Bhavan. He said such opportunities would help young people understand public life better and become more active citizens. The idea, he explained, is to build stronger connections between universities and public institutions so that students can learn beyond classrooms.
One of the key highlights of the visit was the Governor’s appreciation of Nalanda University’s net-zero campus model. He praised the university for its efforts to protect the environment through sustainable practices. He also suggested that this model could be adopted by other universities in Bihar. His remarks placed Nalanda University as an example of how education and environmental care can go hand in hand.
