Patna: Residents across Bihar are likely to face intensifying heat and humidity over the coming days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting temperatures to remain above normal levels until June 10.

According to the Meteorological Department, maximum temperatures in several districts, including Patna, Bhabhua, Buxar, Gaya, Dehri, Sheikhpura, Bhagalpur, Purnia, Supaul, Madhepura, Forbesganj and Banka, could remain 3 to 4 degrees Celsius above seasonal averages.

The department has warned that hot daytime winds combined with rising humidity during the night may increase discomfort across much of the state.

Heatwave Conditions Possible in Isolated Areas

The IMD has indicated that heatwave-like conditions may develop in isolated pockets of Bihar over the next few days.

Meteorologists said residents are likely to experience intense heat during afternoon hours as dry, hot winds continue to prevail. While a few locations may receive brief and light rainfall, weather conditions are expected to remain largely dry across most districts.

Humidity Expected to Increase from 5 AM

According to the Meteorological Centre, humidity levels are expected to begin rising from around 5 AM, making early morning conditions more uncomfortable.

As the day progresses, strong solar radiation is expected to push temperatures higher. A slight drop in temperature may occur between midnight and 5 AM, providing limited relief before humidity begins to increase again.

IMD Forecast till June 10

C.N. Prabhu, Director of the Meteorological Centre, said temperatures are expected to rise gradually across Bihar and remain above normal in several regions, including Patna.

He stated that heatwave impacts could be felt in some areas and that the warming trend is likely to continue until June 10.

Monsoon Likely on Schedule

Despite the ongoing heat, the Meteorological Department remains optimistic about the timely arrival of the southwest monsoon in Bihar.

Officials said there is currently no indication of a delay in monsoon onset. However, residents may have to endure a few more days of intense heat and humidity before weather conditions improve.

The department has advised people to minimise outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours, stay hydrated and take precautions against heat-related illnesses.
