Buxar: A severe spell of heat has swept across Bihar, pushing temperatures beyond 40°C and raising concerns about public health and safety. In a worrying incident from Buxar, 10 school students fainted during classes after being exposed to extreme heat. The children were immediately taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The district recorded temperatures close to 42°C, reflecting the intense conditions being felt across much of the state.
The heat has been particularly harsh in southern districts. Kaimur recorded a high of 43°C, while Aurangabad and Rohtas reported temperatures above 41°C. Nalanda also experienced similar conditions. According to weather officials, at least five districts are currently facing heatwave-like conditions, and temperatures are expected to rise further over the next three days, possibly reaching 45°C in some areas.
Over the past 24 hours, nine districts in Bihar have recorded temperatures above 40°C. Rohtas was among the hottest, touching around 43°C. Gaya and Buxar also saw temperatures close to this level, while districts like Sheikhpura and Nalanda remained above 41°C. Such continuous high temperatures have increased the risk of heat-related illnesses, especially among children, the elderly, and outdoor workers.
Interestingly, the weather in Bihar is showing two different patterns. While southern districts continue to suffer from extreme heat, northern and eastern regions such as Supaul, Katihar, and Kishanganj have received light to moderate rainfall. This rainfall has helped bring down temperatures slightly and provided some relief to residents in those areas.
In the state capital, Patna, temperatures are still hovering between 39°C and 42°C. The Meteorological Department has warned that temperatures may rise by another 2–3°C in the coming days, along with strong sunlight and hot winds. Nights are also expected to remain warm and humid, adding to people’s discomfort.
Experts have advised people to take precautions during this period of intense heat. Residents are being urged to avoid going out in the afternoon, drink plenty of water, and stay in cool places as much as possible. With temperatures expected to remain high for the next few days, the situation may become more challenging if proper care is not taken.
