Patna: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has placed several districts—including Araria, Gaya, Rohtas, Aurangabad, Kaimur, East and West Champaran, Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Madhubani, Kishanganj, Purnia, Katihar, and Gopalganj—under an orange alert for heavy rainfall. Additional districts are under a yellow alert, signaling lighter but still significant rainfall. Accompanying these rain events are gusty winds of up to 40 km/h and the risk of lightning strikes.
Meteorological conditions are being driven by a combination of monsoon trough shifts, low-pressure systems over the Bay of Bengal, and cyclonic circulations—all facilitating moisture-rich winds and intense rainfall. Forecasts suggest very heavy rains may recur in districts like Purnia, Katihar, and parts of Champaran over the next few days.
Authorities and residents are advised to remain alert, particularly in flood-prone zones, and heed local advisories.
