Patna: Tourists visiting Bihar will soon be able to explore some of the state’s most prominent religious and heritage destinations from the air, after the state government approved the launch of a heli-tourism service.
The scheme, cleared by the Bihar Cabinet on Wednesday, will initially cover Rajgir, Valmikinagar, and the Maa Mundeshwari Temple in Kaimur district, with flights operating on weekends.
Weekend Helicopter Tours Planned
Under the first phase, helicopter services will run every Saturday and Sunday until January 15, 2027.
The government has approved a budget of Rs 3.30 crore for the project, including Rs 60 lakh per month for leasing the helicopter.
According to the Civil Aviation Department, the flight schedule has been designed to encourage weekend tourism, allowing visitors to enjoy aerial views of the dense forests of Valmikinagar, the historic landscape of Rajgir and one of India’s oldest functional temples, Maa Mundeshwari.
Operations To Begin After Helicopter Is Leased
Officials said the service will commence as soon as the helicopter is made available. Preparatory work, including operational planning and logistical arrangements, is currently underway.
The Civil Aviation Department will oversee the implementation of the scheme.
The government expects the initiative to strengthen Bihar’s tourism sector by attracting more domestic and international visitors and showcasing the state’s cultural, religious and natural heritage from a new perspective.
Patna Joyrides Already Underway
The new initiative builds on the helicopter joyride service launched in Patna on July 18.
The capital’s service offers a 10-minute aerial tour at a fare of Rs 2,100 per person, flying at an altitude of around 1,200 feet. Passengers can view landmarks including the Ganges, JP Ganga Path, and Takht Sri Harimandir Sahib Gurudwara.
The state government will review the heli-tourism scheme over its first six months, assessing tourist footfall and public feedback.
