Patna: Bihar has been placed on high alert as Holi and Ramadan fall at the same time this year, prompting authorities to strengthen security arrangements across the state. The administration has said it is determined to prevent any disruption to law and order during the overlapping festivals.
A joint review meeting was chaired by the chief secretary and the state’s director general of police, Vinay Kumar, with district magistrates and superintendents of police joining from across Bihar. Officials said sensitive and highly sensitive areas have been identified, and additional forces are being deployed accordingly to maintain peace.
More than 30,000 extra police personnel have been mobilised statewide. Anti-riot squads and quick response teams have been placed on alert, while flag marches are being carried out in several districts to reassure residents. Peace committee meetings are also under way, with local leaders urged to promote harmony and cooperation.
Police said preventive measures are being taken against individuals suspected of potentially disturbing public order. Around 13,000 people have been asked to furnish bonds as a precautionary step, while proposals for action against more than 30,000 individuals have been submitted to sub-divisional courts.
Issuing a warning, the DGP said any attempt to inflame communal tensions would be dealt with firmly. Authorities have sought the support of village heads, ward members and other local representatives, particularly in rural areas, to immediately report rumours or signs of tension.
Social media monitoring has also been intensified. The state’s cyber cell has been tasked with tracking inflammatory posts and misinformation during the festival period. Officials said maintaining peace and communal harmony remains the government’s top priority, adding that police are fully prepared to respond to any situation that may arise.
