Patna: The Bihar government has decided to build four major industrial parks along the Varanasi–Kolkata Expressway as part of its effort to strengthen the state’s industrial sector. These industrial parks will be developed in Gayaji, Rohtas, Kaimur and Aurangabad districts. Officials from the Industries Department said land acquisition for the project has already begun in these areas. The move is aimed at encouraging new industries, increasing employment opportunities and supporting economic growth in the region.
The Industries Department is preparing a detailed action plan to develop these industrial parks as large production and export centres. The Varanasi–Kolkata Expressway will connect Bihar directly with Kolkata and Haldia ports, making it possible to reach the port in about six hours. This easy and fast route will help industries transport their goods quickly to domestic and international markets. Officials believe that better road connectivity will lower transport costs and make Bihar a more attractive destination for investors.
To support industrial growth across the state, the Bihar government has identified around 19,000 acres of land for new industrial zones. This land will be used not only for the four proposed industrial parks but also for other industrial areas planned in the future. The government has also introduced a new incentive package policy, under which many entrepreneurs have shown interest in setting up industrial units in these districts. Authorities expect that big industrial houses from different parts of the country will be drawn to Bihar because of the improved access to ports.
The Varanasi–Kolkata Expressway will be 186 kilometres long within Bihar. Earlier, its length in the state was planned at 153 kilometres, but after a change in the route, it will now pass through Sasaram, adding about 33 kilometres. Industry minister Dilip Jaiswal said that since Bihar does not have its own seaport, exporting goods through neighbouring states is necessary. He said the industrial parks along the expressway will give Bihar’s products a wider market and help the state move forward on the path of industrial development.
