Patna: A state-level review meeting on infrastructure projects across Bihar was held in Patna on Tuesday, with officials directing departments to accelerate pending work and ensure stricter quality control.
The meeting, chaired by secretary (building construction) Kumar Ravi at Adhiveshan Bhawan, reviewed projects being implemented by the Building Construction Department and the Bihar State Building Construction Corporation Limited across 19 departments, including home (prison), rural development and minority welfare.
Focus On Delays And Monitoring
Officials conducted a detailed assessment of ongoing schemes, particularly those lagging behind schedule, and discussed ways to resolve bottlenecks. Engineers were directed to ensure regular monitoring and maintenance of government buildings to improve safety standards.
The secretary also expressed concern over delays in tendering processes and instructed that all tenders and re-tenders be completed within stipulated timelines through transparent and competitive procedures.
Panchayat Buildings And Local Infrastructure
The meeting reviewed progress on 2,615 Panchayat Sarkar Bhawans under construction across the state. Officials said more than 600 buildings have been completed so far, with 284 already handed over to the Panchayati Raj Department.
Authorities were directed to set monthly targets to expedite completion and ensure timely handover of the remaining structures.
Block Offices, Jails And Residential Projects
Construction of block-cum-circle office buildings is under way in more than 240 blocks, with additional residential complexes planned in several locations. Officials said tenders for remaining projects are being finalised.
Work on divisional jails and residential buildings in districts including Chapra, Darbhanga, Gaya and Katihar was also reviewed, with instructions issued to speed up completion and handover.
Schools, Colleges And Cultural Centres
The meeting also assessed the construction of residential schools and hostels for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students, with officials stressing that these projects be prioritised.
Infrastructure expansion at engineering colleges in Bhagalpur, Supaul, Vaishali and other districts — including academic blocks, hostels and auditoriums — is under way, with deadlines tightened.
Progress on “Atal Kala Bhavans” in multiple districts and an auditorium project in Lakhisarai nearing completion was also reviewed.
Fire Safety And Quality Checks
Officials directed that fire safety installations at key government buildings, including the main secretariat and Vikas Bhawan, be completed on priority.
The secretary emphasised strict adherence to quality standards, warning of action against negligence. Engineers were instructed to conduct regular site inspections and hold weekly reviews with contractors.
Project data is being monitored through an online system, with officials asked to ensure timely updates and compliance with standards.
