Patna: Police have arrested two men following the alleged abduction and gang-rape of a minor girl who was held captive in the vicinity of Patna Junction. The victim, who is currently receiving specialised treatment at the Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH), recorded her formal statement with Government Railway Police (GRP) officials on May 4.
The ordeal began on May 1, shortly after the girl arrived in Patna on a train from Vijayawada. According to her testimony, she had lost her mobile phone during the journey and was found weeping on a station platform by a young man who offered to assist her in filing a police report.
Instead of leading her to the station authorities, the man allegedly forced the girl into an auto-rickshaw and transported her to Gandhi Maidan. Investigators state that a second man later arrived in a white car, and the pair drove the victim to a secluded area near the station’s restrooms, where she was subjected to the first of several assaults.
Held in ‘Cattle Shed’
As evening fell, the perpetrators reportedly used threats of violence to ensure the victim’s silence before moving her to an under-construction building adjacent to the railway premises. The girl described the location as an area typically used for tethering cattle.
At this second location, a third man joined the group. The victim told police that she was taken to an upper floor and repeatedly assaulted by all three men. Following the attacks, the girl suffered severe internal haemorrhaging. The suspects allegedly drove her to a road near Danapur Station—approximately 10 kilometres from the city centre—and abandoned her there.
Brazen Return and Public Intervention
The case took a turn when one of the suspects allegedly returned to the spot where the girl had been abandoned, attempting to forcibly abduct her a second time. The victim’s resistance alerted passersby, who intervened and detained the man and his associate until GRP officials from Danapur arrived at the scene.
The victim was initially taken to a Primary Health Centre in Khagaul before being referred to PMCH due to the severity of her injuries.
Legal Proceedings
Authorities have registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act, alongside charges of gang-rape and abduction under the Indian Penal Code.
The GRP has identified the three suspects as Vikas Kumar (21), Pawan Rai (22), and Arvind (28). Vikas Kumar and Pawan Rai are currently in custody, while a search is underway for the third individual, Arvind, who remains at large.
The incident has raised fresh concerns regarding the security of vulnerable travellers at major Indian transport hubs, particularly the ease with which the victim was lured away from a busy platform under the guise of official assistance.
