Patna: The Bihar government has initiated the recruitment process for 17,092 new posts in the Health Department, Health Minister Mangal Pandey announced on Saturday.
Recruitments will be conducted by the Bihar Technical Service Commission (BTSC) and the State Health Society. While the BTSC will oversee permanent appointments in the Health Department, the State Health Society will manage contract-based recruitments under the National Health Mission (NHM).
Pandey said that selection would be based on a written competitive examination and candidates’ work experience. The BTSC has issued advertisements for 11,389 posts in the nurse category (Grade A Nurse, GNM), while the State Health Society has advertised 4,500 posts for Community Health Officers (CHOs), 638 posts for specialist doctors, and 565 posts for medical officers at primary health centres.
The Health Minister said the recruitment drive is part of a broader push to bolster employment opportunities in the state, following Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s vision to create jobs for youth and women. He added that, alongside the newly advertised posts, the Health Department is in the process of filling a total of 35,383 vacancies.
Recruitments are also ongoing through the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC), BTSC and NHM for a wide range of positions. These include 667 posts for general medical officers, 3,623 for specialist medical officers, 808 for dentists, 2,473 for pharmacists, 2,969 for lab technicians, 1,232 for X-ray technicians, 242 for ECG technicians, 1,683 for operation theatre assistants, 3,326 for dressers, 69 for filaria inspectors, and 53 for insect collectors. In addition, the BPSC has advertised 1,711 posts for assistant professors.
Pandey said the ongoing recruitment efforts aim to strengthen the healthcare infrastructure in Bihar and offer a major boost to the state’s employment generation initiatives.
