Patna: Bihar is likely to receive below-normal rainfall during July 2026, according to the latest monthly outlook issued by the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Meteorological Centre in Patna. The forecast comes after the state recorded a significant rainfall deficit in June, highlighting the possibility of a weaker-than-normal monsoon across much of the state.

The IMD said that most regions of Bihar are expected to receive less rainfall than the long-period average during July. The state’s normal rainfall for the month is 340.5 mm, but current climate indicators suggest that precipitation is likely to remain below this benchmark across a majority of districts.

The forecast follows a dry June, during which Bihar recorded 87.8 mm of rainfall, approximately 46% below the monthly normal. Despite isolated episodes of intense downpours, rainfall remained unevenly distributed across the state. The highest 24-hour rainfall during the month was recorded at 196.4 mm in Saraigarh-Bhaptiyahi block of Supaul district on June 29.

The IMD’s probability maps indicate that below-normal rainfall is likely across large parts of Bihar during July, although some pockets could receive near-normal precipitation.

Alongside the rainfall outlook, the weather office has also projected warmer-than-normal conditions for July. Maximum temperatures are expected to remain above average across most parts of the state, while the normal daytime temperature for July ranges between 32°C and 34°C. Minimum temperatures are also likely to stay above normal, with the usual range between 24°C and 26°C.

The monthly outlook suggests that although monsoon activity will continue through July, rainfall distribution may remain uneven, making the month crucial for agriculture and water resource management across Bihar.
