Patna: Patna Metro services will be extended to Malahipakdi from Thursday, nearly doubling the operational length of the city’s first metro corridor and expanding access to rapid public transport in the state capital.
Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary is scheduled to inaugurate the newly completed section, after which regular metro services will begin between ISBT and Malahipakdi.
Corridor Doubles In Length
The Patna Metro project, being developed at an estimated cost of Rs 13,365 crore, was launched to improve urban mobility and reduce traffic congestion in the state capital.
Commercial operations on the first 3.2-kilometre stretch between ISBT and Bhootnath began on October 6, 2025.
With the opening of the approximately three-kilometre extension to Malahipakdi, passengers will now be able to travel nearly six kilometres on the operational section of the corridor.
Underground Network Under Construction
According to officials, the metro line will transition to an underground alignment beyond Malahipakdi before continuing towards Patna Junction.
The underground corridor will pass through PMCH, Gandhi Maidan and Dakbungalow, with six underground stations under construction:
- Rajendra Nagar
- Moin-ul-Haq Stadium
- Patna Science College
- PMCH
- Gandhi Maidan
- Akashvani
The line will ultimately connect to Patna Junction, strengthening connectivity across the city.

Khemnichak Station To Open Soon
Officials said construction of Khemnichak Metro Station, located between Bhootnath and Malahipakdi, has been completed.
The station is expected to be opened to passengers within the next fortnight.
Beyond Khemnichak, the corridor will continue through Mithapur, Chandragupt Institute of Management, and Karbigahiya before reaching Patna Junction.
Government Highlights Public Transport Push
Vinay Kumar, Principal Secretary of the Urban Development and Housing Department, said the extension would provide residents with a modern and convenient transport option across the expanded six-kilometre corridor between ISBT and Malahipakdi.
He said the state government was continuing work to expand the Patna Metro network as part of its broader efforts to improve public transport infrastructure in the city.
