Patna: A devastating road accident in Bihar’s Kaimur district left one person dead and at least 10 others seriously injured late on Monday night. The collision between a bus and a truck occurred near the Mahuaria overbridge in the Durgawati police station area along the Delhi-Kolkata National Highway 19.
The bus, carrying 38 passengers from Madhya Pradesh, was reportedly en route from Kashi (Varanasi) to the Gayaji Pitru Paksha mela when the accident occurred. Among the passengers were 14 women and 24 men. Witnesses described chaotic scenes at the crash site, with passengers screaming as emergency services arrived.
The bus conductor, Mahesh Verma, 30, from Maheshbar village in Khargone district, died on the spot. The injured were rushed to the nearest hospital, and rescue teams worked to clear the damaged vehicle from the highway to prevent traffic congestion.
Durgawati police and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) patrol teams led relief operations. The body of the deceased has been taken into police custody for post-mortem examination. Sub-Inspector Ajit Kumar, who attended the scene, described the collision as “very severe” and confirmed that all passengers were from Madhya Pradesh.
