Rohtas: The scenic Karamchat Dam in Bihar’s Rohtas district is being developed into a new tourist destination, offering visitors the chance to experience shikaras and houseboats without travelling to Kashmir.
The state government is introducing houseboats equipped with hotel-style amenities, including air-conditioned rooms, modern bathrooms, kitchens and lounge areas. Each boat will be able to accommodate eight to ten people, with food and drinks available on board.
Tourism minister Dr Sunil Kumar said trials of the houseboats were under way and the facilities would soon be open to the public. “These houseboats have been designed in a very special way, where people will get hotel-like facilities while enjoying the natural surroundings,” he said.
The dam, surrounded by greenery, waterfalls and valleys, has long attracted visitors as a picnic spot, particularly during the monsoon season. The introduction of water-based tourism is expected to draw more tourists and generate employment in the area.
