Gopalganj: A disturbing case has emerged from Gopalganj, Bihar, where a young man attempted to sell his kidney after losing Rs 2 lakh in an online game. The man, identified as Sujit Kumar from Sirmai village in Saran district, had been working as a wedding videographer before he became addicted to a game called “DBG” that he discovered through an Instagram advertisement. What started as casual play quickly spiralled into a dangerous obsession that left him heavily in debt.
According to reports, Sujit initially invested Rs 10,000 in the game and won Rs 30,000, a victory that encouraged him to put in more money. His luck, however, soon turned. Hoping to make easy profits, he even used Rs 2 lakh that his maternal uncle had sent him to buy a motorcycle, but he lost the entire sum. The mounting financial loss left him under severe mental pressure, and in desperation, he travelled secretly to Gopalganj with the shocking intention of selling his kidney.
Sujit reportedly approached a private clinic near Ambedkar Chowk and told the doctor on duty, “Buy my kidney, I am in dire need of money.” Concerned, the doctor asked why he wanted to do this. When Sujit explained that he had lost money in an online game and wanted to repay his debt, the doctor immediately recognised the gravity of the situation.
Instead of going through with the illegal transaction, the doctor informed local residents and contacted Sujit’s family. Within hours, his mother and other relatives arrived at the clinic. They consoled him and convinced him to return home. The incident has once again sparked conversations around the growing menace of online gaming addiction in India and its devastating impact on young people’s mental health and finances.
