Patna: The Bihar government has decided to stop using the word ‘Fail’ on students’ marksheets and certificates, Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari announced on Thursday.
Speaking at a review meeting in Vikas Bhawan, Tiwari said the rules would be amended to implement the change. The Education Department will soon issue necessary directions to the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB).
Under the proposed system, the term ‘Eligible for Skill’ will be used instead of ‘Fail’ on certificates.
Focus on students’ morale
Tiwari said the move was intended to protect students’ morale and ensure that examination performance does not become a measure of a student’s overall potential.
He said a student’s talent does not diminish simply because they fail to secure the expected marks in an examination. Therefore, terminology that could negatively affect students’ confidence should not be used on official certificates.
Special classes for Matric supplementary examinees
The minister also announced that students appearing for the Matriculation supplementary examination would receive special classes for one month.
The initiative is aimed at helping students prepare more effectively for the examination and improving their chances of passing.
Teachers’ Day preparations reviewed
The meeting also reviewed preparations for the Teachers’ Day celebration on September 5 at Sri Krishna Memorial Hall in Patna.
Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary will inaugurate the event, which will be attended by both Deputy Chief Ministers. The Chief Minister is also scheduled to launch the ‘Teacher Support Portal’ during the programme.
One teacher from each district will be selected for a state-level award.
Students from 10 model schools in Patna designated as ‘Saraswati Vidya Niketan’ will also be invited. Teachers from DIET, SCERT and teacher-training centres are expected to participate in the event.
Education Department finances reviewed
During the meeting, Tiwari reviewed the financial position of different wings of the Education Department, including their income and expenditure, as well as the Bihar Education Project Council.
He directed officials to focus on the effective implementation of government schemes and ensure optimal utilisation of available resources.
Education Department Secretary Rajiv Roshan, Special Secretary Dharmendra Kumar and other senior officials attended the review meeting.
