Patna: Bihar minister and BJP candidate Dr. Sunil Kumar, who is contesting from the Bihar Sharif Assembly constituency, has declared assets worth over ₹17.5 crore — an increase of ₹6 crore in five years — and a seven-fold rise in his annual income within the past year, according to the affidavit submitted with his nomination papers on Wednesday.
Dr. Sunil, a doctor by profession, filed his nomination in the presence of Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. His affidavit reveals that the total movable and immovable assets owned by him and his wife now stand at ₹17.53 crore. In the 2020 Assembly elections, their combined wealth was ₹11.35 crore, reflecting a rise of ₹6.18 crore over the five-year period.
Movable Assets Double in Five Years
As per the latest declaration, Dr. Sunil and his wife’s movable assets have nearly doubled — from ₹4.40 crore in 2020 to ₹9.53 crore in 2025. The affidavit attributes this rise to investments, business ventures, and increased capital balances in various firms.
Meanwhile, the market value of his wife’s immovable assets has gone up from ₹1.95 crore to ₹3 crore during the same period.

Seven-Fold Jump in Annual Income
The most notable change is in Dr. Sunil’s declared annual income. His income tax returns show that he earned ₹28.6 lakh in the financial year 2023–24. However, in the return for 2024–25, his income jumped to over ₹1.67 crore — a more than seven-fold increase in just one year.
Seven Criminal Cases Pending
The minister also disclosed that seven criminal cases are pending against him. Most of these relate to charges such as inciting riots and obstructing government work, though he has not been convicted in any of them so far.
Declares Licensed Firearms and Gold
Dr. Sunil’s affidavit further lists his personal possessions, including an inherited rifle and a revolver, both registered under valid licenses. He also owns a 2021 Toyota Innova Crysta.
In terms of jewellery, Dr. Sunil declared 400 grams of gold inherited from his late father, while his wife owns 676 grams of gold valued at ₹1.24 crore.
Before filing his nomination, Dr. Sunil performed a puja ceremony at his residence in Bihar Sharif.
