Patna: On the final day of the year, Bihar’s Health Minister, Mangal Pandey, declared assets including more than Rs.1 crore in a single bank account, residential properties in Patna and Delhi, and holdings of gold, silver and vehicles, according to documents released as part of the state cabinet’s annual transparency exercise.
Pandey’s disclosure lists total movable assets of Rs.1,32,16,075, comprising jewellery, cash, firearms and a Tata Safari SUV, alongside bank deposits. His State Bank of India account in Patna reportedly holds Rs.1,01,66,660, with a further Rs.18,83,415 in a Punjab National Bank account. The disclosure states he also holds Rs.59,000 in cash, a rifle valued at Rs.52,000, and 240g of gold.
The minister owns two residential properties: a 1,063 sq ft flat in Dwarka, Delhi, purchased in 2019 for Rs.90 lakh, and a 1,370 sq ft flat near Patliputra railway station in Patna, registered in October 2024 at a value of Rs.47,35,550. Pandey is servicing a housing loan of Rs.42,50,933, the filing notes.
His wife’s assets include 680g of gold, 7kg of silver, and a business — Panday Scientific & Sports — with a declared capital of Rs.2,64,024.54. Her total movable assets are valued at Rs.54,97,954.
The annual disclosure tradition, made mandatory for Bihar ministers, is intended to promote transparency in public life. Asset declarations from the chief minister and the full cabinet were also published on Tuesday evening.
