Patna: The Bihar School Examination Board has introduced a network of ‘model examination centres’ across the state in a major push towards digitisation and transparency in the education system. These centres—now active in 12 cities including Patna, Darbhanga, Bhagalpur and Muzaffarpur—have been operational since March 22, 2025, and mark a significant step in making examinations secure, student-friendly and efficient.
Addressing long-standing issues such as mismanagement, cheating, and overcrowding, the new centres feature both Computer Based Test (CBT) and Paper Based Test (PBT) setups. Facilities include ISO-certified infrastructure, AI-powered CCTV surveillance without blind spots, biometric registration, secure on-site printing, a centrally managed control room, and dedicated rooms for supervisors.
Students now write exams in air-conditioned halls with proper seating arrangements, bag storage, and waiting areas, significantly improving the examination experience. Officials say the initiative not only enhances transparency and fairness but also instils greater confidence among students.
High-stakes national and state-level exams, such as Indian Navy officer recruitment conducted by CDAC, have already been held at these centres. Feedback from candidates and observers alike has been overwhelmingly positive, with many praising the professionalism and modern amenities of the centres.
The Bihar government is planning to expand this model to other districts, aiming to develop a total capacity of 14,000 examination seats. Beyond reforming the exam system, the centres are also generating employment for local youth in roles such as technical staff, data operators and security personnel.
By combining cutting-edge technology with good governance, the initiative not only strengthens Bihar’s education system but also positions the state as a leader in examination reform nationwide.
