Patna: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a further advance of the southwest monsoon across Bihar over the next four to five days, raising the prospect of widespread rainfall and relief from recent heatwave-like conditions in many parts of the state.
According to the IMD, the northern limit of the monsoon is currently passing through Muzaffarpur, indicating that monsoon activity is steadily expanding across Bihar.
Meteorologists said atmospheric conditions remain highly favourable for the monsoon to advance into the remaining parts of the state during the coming days.
Heavy Rain And Thunderstorm Alert
The IMD has issued warnings for heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning across several districts, including West Champaran, East Champaran, Patna, Nawada, Gaya, Aurangabad, Siwan, Bhojpur, Sheikhpura, Lakhisarai, Buxar, Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Purnia, Katihar, Kishanganj, Bhagalpur and Munger.
The IMD has also warned of gusty winds reaching speeds of 65 to 70 kmph in some areas during periods of intense weather activity.
Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant, particularly in districts expected to experience thunderstorms and lightning.
Heavy Rainfall Recorded Across Bihar
Several parts of Bihar have already witnessed significant rainfall over the past 24 hours.
According to IMD data, heavy to very heavy rainfall ranging between 12 cm and 20 cm was recorded in different districts.
Gaya recorded the state’s highest rainfall during the period, receiving 16 cm of rain.
Strong winds were also reported from parts of the state, with Rajgir recording gusts of up to 61 kmph.
The rainfall has led to increased cloud cover and a moderation in temperatures in several areas, although hot and humid conditions continue in some districts.
Patna Likely To Remain Hot And Humid
Despite the increasing monsoon activity, temperatures in the state capital are expected to remain relatively high.
The IMD has forecast a maximum temperature of around 39C and a minimum of 29C in Patna on June 15.
Meteorologists expect cloud cover to increase gradually as monsoon activity intensifies over the region.
