Patna: Weather conditions in Bihar are expected to undergo a significant change over the coming days as the southwest monsoon advances across the state, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Meteorologists said conditions remain highly favourable for the further progress of the monsoon, with additional parts of Bihar likely to come under its influence around June 23.
At present, the Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) is passing through Ranchi in neighbouring Jharkhand and through the Bihar districts of Jamui and Muzaffarpur.
Heavy Rainfall Forecast For Several Districts
The IMD has issued warnings for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in parts of Bihar over the next week.
According to the forecast, isolated areas could receive heavy rain between June 21 and 22, with another spell expected from June 25 to 27.
The department has specifically warned of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds with speeds of 40–50 kmph in the districts of Araria, Katihar and Kishanganj on June 22.
Weather officials said residents in vulnerable areas should remain alert to rapidly changing conditions and follow official advisories.
Thunderstorm Alerts Issued
In addition to heavy rain warnings, the IMD has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds in several parts of the state on June 21, June 23 and again between June 26 and 27.
The department said gusty winds reaching 40–50 kmph could accompany thunderstorms in isolated locations.
Such weather conditions may result in temporary disruptions to transportation and outdoor activities, particularly in districts expected to receive intense rainfall.

Heatwave Conditions To Ease
The weather shift comes after Bihar experienced another spell of intense heat.
During the past 24 hours, maximum temperatures ranging between 40°C and 43°C were recorded in several parts of the state.
Heatwave conditions may continue in isolated pockets on June 21, particularly in areas that have yet to receive significant rainfall.
However, meteorologists expect temperatures to fall gradually as monsoon activity strengthens and rain-bearing systems become more active.
Relief From Humidity Expected
The delayed advancement of the monsoon has contributed to uncomfortable levels of heat and humidity across much of Bihar in recent days.
Weather officials said the anticipated increase in rainfall after June 23 could bring substantial relief to residents struggling with oppressive weather conditions.
If current forecasts hold, most parts of the state are expected to witness more widespread monsoon activity by the end of next week, marking a transition from heatwave-like conditions to a wetter weather pattern typical of the monsoon season.
