Patna: The Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (BUIDCO) has intensified its monsoon preparedness measures in Patna, setting prescribed water levels at all 56 Drainage Pumping Stations (DPS) across the city to prevent waterlogging during the rainy season.
According to officials, the pre-determined sump levels will enable pumps to be activated immediately when water levels rise during rainfall, ensuring faster drainage and reducing the risk of urban flooding.
The initiative has been implemented under the directions of BUIDCO’s Managing Director as part of the agency’s Monsoon 2026 preparedness plan.
Officials Directed to Maintain Prescribed Levels
In a review meeting held ahead of the monsoon, the Managing Director instructed all Project Directors, Deputy Project Directors and Assistant Project Directors to ensure that the prescribed sump levels at pumping stations under their jurisdiction are maintained at all times.
Officials said the water levels have been fixed according to the capacity of individual sumps, allowing each station to operate efficiently during periods of heavy rainfall.
Personnel have already been deployed at all pumping stations in three shifts, while field officers have been tasked with continuous monitoring of operations.
24-Hour Control Room Monitoring Operations
To ensure a quick response to any waterlogging situation in Patna and adjoining areas, BUIDCO has activated a 24-hour control room.
The control room is collecting operational reports from all pumping stations every hour, enabling headquarters-level monitoring of drainage infrastructure throughout the monsoon season.
Officials said the real-time reporting system will help identify any operational issues and facilitate immediate corrective action.
Regular Inspections Ordered
BUIDCO has also directed officials to conduct regular inspections of pumping stations and assess the performance of machinery during the monsoon period.
Any discrepancy in sump water levels or equipment functioning must be addressed immediately to ensure uninterrupted drainage operations, the agency said.
The Managing Director warned that negligence at any level during the monsoon season would not be tolerated and urged officials to treat the responsibility with utmost seriousness to safeguard residents from waterlogging-related inconvenience.
