Patna: Despite the arrival of the southwest monsoon in Bihar, residents across much of the state continue to grapple with intense heat, high humidity and strong sunshine.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued thunderstorm and rainfall alerts for 24 districts across Bihar. Of these, 14 districts are under an orange alert, while 10 districts have been placed under a yellow alert. Wind speeds of up to 50 kmph are expected in the affected areas.
According to the Meteorological Centre, Supaul recorded rainfall during the past 24 hours, while temperatures in districts including Shekhpura and Patna crossed 40 degrees Celsius. The weather office has indicated that there is little likelihood of any significant change in maximum temperatures over the next three to four days.
Why Is Bihar Still Experiencing Heat After the Monsoon’s Arrival?
Weather experts explain that the arrival of the monsoon does not mean that all parts of the state will immediately receive widespread and continuous rainfall. Monsoon activity advances gradually, and the intensity of cloud cover and precipitation varies from one region to another.
Currently, many parts of Bihar are witnessing a mix of sunshine and cloud cover. In areas that have not yet received substantial rainfall, strong solar radiation combined with high moisture levels in the atmosphere is leading to increased humidity and discomfort.
As a result, residents are experiencing more oppressive conditions than usual, despite the onset of the monsoon season.
Patna Likely to Remain Hot and Humid
Patna is expected to witness partly cloudy skies on Tuesday, with the possibility of light rainfall in some areas. However, humid conditions are likely to persist throughout the day.
The maximum temperature in the state capital is forecast to remain between 37 degrees Celsius and 39 degrees Celsius.
Rainfall Likely in Northern and Eastern Bihar
The weather department has forecast a higher probability of rainfall in northern and eastern districts over the coming days. Several areas may also experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning.
Meanwhile, parts of southern and central Bihar are expected to continue recording above-normal temperatures. Overall, no major changes in weather conditions are anticipated over the next three to four days.
Relief for Farmers as Monsoon Advances
The onset of monsoon showers has brought relief to farmers preparing for the kharif season. Agricultural experts believe that increased soil moisture will accelerate sowing activities and paddy transplantation across the state.
The rainfall is expected to be particularly beneficial for farmers preparing their fields for paddy cultivation, reducing dependence on irrigation and potentially lowering input costs.
