Patna: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange alerts for West and East Champaran—where extremely heavy rainfall is expected—while yellow alerts have been declared for Siwan, Sheohar, and Gopalganj, signalling a continued spell of thunderstorms and rainfall across Bihar on Monday.
Thundery skies and rain accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 km/h are forecast for several districts, raising concerns of localized flooding and waterlogging. Ongoing downpours have already triggered heightened vigilance across the state, with over 41% rainfall deficit recorded in July, despite sudden showers in parts of Bihar such as Patna, which received 383.5 mm, bucking the statewide trend.
Authorities have urged residents to avoid venturing outdoors without necessity, especially in the northern and eastern districts over the next two to three days. Moderate to heavy rainfall is expected to persist, with thunderstorms and lightning likely to continue until at least Thursday.
Emergency services and disaster-response agencies have been put on alert, and local administrations are prepared to manage potential disruptions from flooding or storm-related incidents.
