Patna: Bus passengers in Bihar will soon be able to enjoy cashless travel, as the state gears up to roll out a digital ticketing system. The Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC) is set to sign a memorandum of understanding with Canara Bank this Saturday at Hotel Maurya, Patna, paving the way for an e-ticketing facility across government-run and public-private partnership (PPP) buses.
From August, passengers will be able to book tickets online and pay digitally, marking a significant shift in the state’s public transport infrastructure. The initiative is being spearheaded by the state Transport Department in an effort to modernise travel and enhance convenience for commuters.
The formal launch will be attended by Transport Minister Sheila Mandal, Additional Chief Secretary Mihir Kumar Singh, and BSRTC Administrator Atul Kumar Verma.
Under the partnership, Canara Bank will supply automated fare collection machines to all operational buses, alongside introducing a dedicated software platform for online ticket booking and digital payments.
Modelled on the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) system, the project promises to offer seamless access to tickets from anywhere in the country, allowing passengers to plan and pay for their journeys remotely.
