Patna: Bihar has settled more than 71,000 pending traffic challans through a special National Lok Adalat campaign conducted across all districts from September 7 to 12, 2026.

According to the Transport Department, a total of 71,126 challans were disposed of during the campaign, covering challan amounts worth Rs 8.21 crore.

Vehicle Owners Get Opportunity to Settle Pending Challans

The special campaign was organised to provide vehicle owners and challan holders with a simple and convenient mechanism to clear long-pending traffic violations.

Transport Secretary Raj Kumar said a large number of vehicle owners took advantage of the Lok Adalat to settle their pending challans.

He also appealed to motorists to follow traffic rules not merely to avoid challans but to ensure their own safety and that of other road users.

He urged vehicle owners to drive with valid documents and comply with road safety regulations.

Up to 50% Discount on Challan Amount

State Transport Commissioner Arif Ahsan said traffic violators were offered up to 50 per cent relief on challan amounts as part of the initiative.

The campaign provided an opportunity to settle challans that had remained pending for more than 90 days.

According to the Transport Department, the initiative helped reduce the backlog of pending challans while also encouraging motorists to become more aware of traffic rules and road safety.

Challans Worth Rs 8.21 Crore Settled

The campaign resulted in the settlement of 71,126 challans linked to a total amount of Rs 8.21 crore.

The department said the initiative helped resolve a significant number of pending cases while providing vehicle owners with an easier route to clear outstanding challans.

Patna Records Highest Number of Settlements

Among the districts, Patna recorded the highest number of disposed challans at 21,304.

It was followed by:

  • Muzaffarpur: 14,069
  • Bhagalpur: 12,336
  • Motihari: 2,747
  • Nalanda: 1,516
  • Katihar: 1,460
  • Begusarai: 1,400

The Transport Department said the special campaign provided a significant opportunity for vehicle owners across Bihar to settle long-pending traffic challans while reinforcing the importance of compliance with road safety rules.
