Nalanda: NCC Under Officer Shivam Kumar from ANS College, Barh, has successfully scaled a glacier at an altitude of 18,500 feet in North Sikkim without supplemental oxygen during the All-India NCC Adventure Mountaineering Camp. He also hoisted the Indian tricolour at the summit.
Shivam was among only 29 cadets from across the country who completed the challenging expedition. Of the 15 cadets selected from the Bihar-Jharkhand Directorate, only three completed the climb, including Shivam from Bihar and two cadets from Jharkhand.
Challenging Expedition In High-Altitude Conditions
Describing the difficulties faced during the expedition, Shivam said the climb involved demanding physical training and exposure to harsh weather conditions.
“We had to complete daily practice climbs of 2,000 feet while dealing with low oxygen levels, intense cold, rain and snowfall. The climb was extremely difficult,” he said.
According to Shivam, five cadets from Bihar had participated in the expedition, but four could not complete it because of the challenging conditions.
Credits NCC Officers For Achievement
Shivam credited Colonel Ajay Kumar, the current Commanding Officer of the 38 Bihar Battalion NCC in Bihar Sharif, and former Commanding Officer Colonel Rajesh Bahri for their guidance and support.
He said their guidance played an important role in helping him complete the expedition.
ANS College Congratulates Cadet
Professor S P Shahi, Principal of ANS College, Barh, along with NCC Caretaker Officer (CTO) Dr Saurabh Kumar and former Captain Dr Anuj Kumar, congratulated Shivam on his achievement.
They said his successful climb had brought recognition to the college and Bihar at the national level. They also described the achievement as an inspiration for other NCC cadets.
Shivam’s accomplishment highlights the role of discipline, physical endurance and training in preparing NCC cadets for challenging mountaineering expeditions.
