Patna: The Higher Education Department has intensified preparations to begin academic sessions in newly established degree colleges across the state from July 1, marking a key step in the rollout of Bihar’s higher education expansion programme.
According to officials, the process of appointing principals and deploying teaching as well as non-teaching staff has already begun to ensure that academic activities start without delay in the upcoming session.
The initiative is being implemented under the fourth resolution—“Progress in Education, Progress in Future”—of the “Saat Nischay-3” programme, aimed at strengthening access to higher education across the state.
Expansion Across Underserved Blocks
Officials said that out of Bihar’s 534 blocks, 211 currently do not have any constituent or affiliated degree college. To address this gap, the state government has directed the establishment of new degree colleges in these blocks.
The plan includes ensuring that classes begin from the new academic session itself, with administrative and academic arrangements being carried out simultaneously.
The Higher Education Department has begun deployment of principals, subject-specific faculty members and support staff. Preparations related to classrooms, academic resources and institutional setup are also underway.
Government Direction and Implementation
Acting on instructions from the state leadership, officials have expedited groundwork to operationalise the new institutions. The focus remains on meeting the July 1 deadline for commencement of classes.
Professor Professor NK Agarwal said arrangements are being made to start academic activities in all newly established colleges from the scheduled date. He added that steps are in progress to ensure smooth functioning from the first day of the new session.
The expansion drive is expected to significantly improve access to higher education in rural and semi-urban regions, particularly in blocks that previously lacked degree-level institutions.
The initiative is part of the broader education strategy under the state of Bihar aimed at improving institutional reach and academic infrastructure across districts.
