Patna: Bihar government is preparing to introduce a new export policy aimed at strengthening the state’s export ecosystem and making it more favourable for exporters, industries minister Dr Dilip Jaiswal said on Thursday.
Speaking at a mega export promotion programme and exporters’ conference in Patna, Jaiswal said the government is revising the current policy to provide better facilities and support to exporters. The event was organised by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade under the Union commerce and industry ministry, in collaboration with the state industries department and the Federation of Indian Export Organisations. Discussions focused on free trade agreements and the export promotion mission.
Jaiswal said the new export policy will aim to match the success of Bihar’s industrial and incentive policies, which he said are already considered among the best in the country. He praised entrepreneurs for their role in the state’s economic growth, describing them as the “economic backbone” of Bihar.
The minister also urged the central government to approve additional special economic zones for the state. While two SEZs have already been sanctioned for Bihar, he said they are not sufficient given the state’s growing industrial and export potential. He also called for the establishment of a dedicated foreign trade office in Bihar to support exporters.
Industries secretary Kundan Kumar highlighted the state’s export potential and outlined plans to develop export hubs in every district. According to him, this initiative will help increase exports and raise their contribution to the state’s gross state domestic product. He also encouraged exporters in Bihar to form a formal exporters’ association to strengthen coordination and representation.
Vipin Menon, additional director general of foreign trade, said Bihar has strong potential in the export sector and can benefit from the free trade agreements signed by the central government with several countries.
Several senior officials attended the programme, including additional director general of foreign trade Sampat Kumar, additional commissioner of excise Anshul Gupta, MSME director Aman Sameer and industries director Mukul Kumar Gupta. During the event, 28 exporters from Bihar were honoured for their performance in promoting the state’s exports.
