Patna:The Bihar government has completed the settlement of 107 new yellow sand ghats and 54 white sand ghats, paving the way for the commencement of mining operations in the coming weeks.
Officials said the move is expected to improve sand availability for construction activities and support ongoing infrastructure and housing projects across the state.
Several districts set to benefit
The newly allotted mining ghats are located in districts including Bhojpur, Arwal, Aurangabad, Patna, Gaya and Jamui.
With mining expected to begin shortly, local availability of sand is likely to increase, providing easier access to a key construction material for residents, builders and contractors.
Number of active ghats to rise significantly
At present, mining is underway at around 204 yellow sand ghats and 35 white sand ghats in Bihar.
Once operations begin at the newly allotted sites, the number of active yellow sand ghats will increase to 311, while active white sand ghats will rise to 89.
Industry observers say the expansion could strengthen supply chains and help stabilise market availability.
Large number of ghats yet to be auctioned
According to the Department of Mines and Geology, Bihar has identified 466 yellow sand ghats, of which 311 have been settled, while the process for 155 ghats remains pending.
For white sand, the state has identified 541 ghats. Of these, only 89 have been allotted so far, leaving 452 ghats yet to be auctioned.
The department has directed district administrations to accelerate the remaining auction and settlement processes.
Relief expected for construction sector
Officials said the increase in operational mining sites is expected to reduce shortages and improve the availability of sand at the local level.
The move could benefit individual home builders, private developers and public infrastructure projects by ensuring a more consistent supply of construction materials.
The government expects the expanded mining operations to support construction activity and contribute to the timely execution of development projects across Bihar.
