Patna: The Bihar cabinet has approved the allotment of around 20 acres of land in Begusarai district for the establishment of a permanent campus of the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Patna, in a move aimed at strengthening fashion education and skill development in the state.
The land, located in Mauza Mehlipur under Bakhri block, will be transferred to the state’s industry department to facilitate the expansion of the institute’s academic and infrastructure capacity.
Boost To Fashion And Textile Sector
Officials said the new campus is expected to play a key role in developing Bihar’s textile and apparel ecosystem by integrating traditional crafts with modern design and industry practices.
The decision has been welcomed as a step towards creating employment opportunities and enhancing skill-based education for young people in the region.
Government Push For Skill Development
Union textiles minister Giriraj Singh has previously emphasised the need to promote indigenous crafts and strengthen fashion education, while chief minister Samrat Choudhary has underlined the state’s focus on skill development and innovation.

Rahul Sharma, director of NIFT Patna, described the approval as a significant milestone.
“The allotment of land for a permanent campus marks a landmark moment for NIFT Patna. It will enhance our capacity to deliver quality education, foster innovation and strengthen industry linkages,” he said.
Authorities said the proposed campus is expected to emerge as a hub for fashion education, research and entrepreneurship, contributing to the broader socio-economic development of Begusarai and surrounding areas.
