Patna: The India Meteorological Department has issued weather alerts across all 38 districts of Bihar amid forecasts of thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds over the coming days.
According to the Meteorological Department:
- an Orange Alert has been issued for 16 districts
- a Yellow Alert has been issued for 22 districts
Officials warned that several areas could experience:
- heavy rainfall
- thunderstorms
- wind speeds reaching up to 60 kmph
- lightning strikes
Public Advised To Remain Alert
The Meteorological Department urged residents to remain cautious during adverse weather conditions.
Farmers, in particular, were advised not to work in open fields during thunderstorms and lightning activity.
Authorities also asked residents to unplug electrical appliances such as:
- televisions
- refrigerators
- computers
- washing machines
during storms to prevent short circuits and electrical damage.

Monsoon May Reach Bihar Early
Weather officials said the southwest monsoon is likely to arrive in Bihar earlier than usual this year.
The monsoon typically reaches Bihar between June 12 and June 15, but meteorologists now expect its onset between June 8 and June 10.
Officials also indicated that the monsoon could arrive in Kerala nearly five days ahead of schedule.
Mixed Weather Conditions Across Bihar
Bihar is currently witnessing varied weather conditions, with some districts experiencing intense heat while others receive intermittent rainfall.
The Meteorological Department said cloudy conditions were expected to persist in parts of North Bihar, reducing the likelihood of any major change in maximum or minimum temperatures over the next three to four days.
According to the Meteorological Centre Patna, the following maximum temperatures were recorded on Friday:
- 41.3°C in Bhabhua
- 41.1°C in Dehri
- 38.8°C in Buxar
- 37.9°C in Rajgir
- 37.6°C in Gaya
- 37.5°C in Motihari
- 37.1°C in Patna
- 37°C in Valmikinagar
- 36.9°C in Sheikhpura
- 35.6°C in Bhagalpur
Officials said weather fluctuations were expected to continue as the monsoon system advanced gradually towards eastern India.
