Nawada: A district police constable in Bihar was found dead at his rented home on Saturday, in what authorities are treating as a suspected suicide. Amit Kumar, a 2021-batch officer from Haspura in Aurangabad district, was discovered hanging in his residence in Narendra Nagar Sector A, Nawada.
A suicide note recovered at the scene reportedly accused two senior officers of harassment. One of them, Inspector Manoj Sinha, the training in-charge of the local police lines, has been suspended pending investigation.
According to the note, Amit claimed that despite his leave being formally approved, he was repeatedly prevented from taking time off and allegedly compelled to perform personal tasks for senior officers. Fellow constables have corroborated these claims, citing ongoing mental harassment and instances of caste-based discrimination.
Amit, who had recently married, reportedly endured days of distress before his death. Friends discovered his body on Saturday morning and alerted the authorities.
Local police, including Nawada SP Abhinav Dhiman, Sadar SDPO Hulas Kumar, and officers from the city and Hisua police stations, arrived at the scene. The Magadh Range Inspector General of Police, Kshatranil Singh, also conducted an on-site investigation.
SP Dhiman said the circumstances surrounding Amit’s death are under careful examination and assured that strict action would follow if any wrongdoing by officers is confirmed.
