Patna: The Bihar Police is expanding its intelligence network across all 40 police districts in the state to strengthen intelligence gathering and real-time monitoring of sensitive activities.
According to information from the police headquarters, intelligence offices have already become operational in government buildings in 35 districts. Offices in the remaining five districts are expected to become operational within the next month.
The police headquarters has deployed 138 sub-inspectors (SIs) to the Special Branch as part of the expansion. Around three to four officers have been assigned to each district to strengthen local intelligence collection.
The teams will monitor developments and activities at the local level and submit regular reports to the Special Branch. The expanded network is expected to improve the real-time monitoring of sensitive information and help the police respond more quickly to emerging security concerns.
Focus on 729-km open Nepal border
A key focus of the intelligence network will be Bihar’s 729-kilometre international open border with Nepal.
The border passes through seven Bihar districts — East Champaran, West Champaran, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Supaul, Araria and Kishanganj.
The intelligence teams will maintain special surveillance along these areas to help prevent infiltration, human trafficking, drug trafficking, circulation of counterfeit currency and other forms of smuggling.
The intelligence network has also been strengthened in interstate border districts adjoining Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and West Bengal, officials said.
The expansion is aimed at strengthening the flow of ground-level intelligence to the Special Branch and improving coordination and surveillance across sensitive border and interstate areas.
