Patna: A new guest house for Bihar police personnel will soon be built in Patna, aiming to provide safe and affordable accommodation for officers travelling to the city for official duties. The facility, inspired by the IPS Mess model, is expected to improve living conditions for officers, especially those from junior ranks who often face difficulties finding suitable lodging.
The proposed building will come up on vacant land inside the Bihar Police Association premises on Mangals Road. The project has already received approval from the Director General of Police, and the Bihar Police Headquarters has initiated the process by contacting the state’s construction agency. Officials say the move is part of a broader effort to strengthen welfare measures within the police force.
The idea for the guest house was put forward by a committee led by the association’s president, Mrityunjay Kumar Singh. The proposal was later approved during a meeting of senior police officials at the headquarters. Authorities believe that such a facility is long overdue, given the increasing number of officers travelling to Patna for court work, investigations and other official assignments.
According to initial plans, the building will be five storeys high and will include more than 50 air-conditioned rooms. A nominal charge, likely between Rs 250 and Rs 500, may be introduced to maintain the facility. This is expected to keep the accommodation affordable while ensuring proper upkeep.
At present, many officers are forced to stay in private hotels, which can be both expensive and risky, particularly when they are carrying official weapons. The new guest house is expected to provide a secure and controlled environment, making it easier for police personnel to carry out their duties without worrying about accommodation. The initiative is also likely to benefit officers visiting from other districts and states, offering them a reliable place to stay in the capital.
