Kishanganj/Patna: Police in Bihar’s Kishanganj district have seized a consignment of illicit foreign liquor and arrested one person during a special enforcement drive launched for the New Year, officials said on Thursday.
The action took place in the Arrabari police station area of Pothia block, where officers recovered 54 bottles of foreign liquor, each of 180 ml, from a roadside paan kiosk near Raipur Chowk Bank Mor. The total quantity seized was 9.72 litres.
According to police, the raid was carried out on the evening of January 1, after officers received specific intelligence about suspicious cartons being stored at the stall. When the police team arrived, the shopkeeper attempted to flee with the cartons but was chased and detained.
The accused has been identified as Bitu Kumar Das, a resident of Raipur village, Ward No. 09, under Arrabari police station limits in Kishanganj district.
Station house officer Kanak Lata said the operation was part of a heightened inspection campaign aimed at maintaining law and order during New Year celebrations. “Strict action will continue against those involved in the illegal liquor trade,” she said, adding that enforcement had been stepped up across the area.
Bihar has enforced total prohibition on alcohol since 2016, and police routinely conduct raids, particularly during festive periods, to curb illegal sale and distribution.
