Patna: In a bid to streamline communication and avoid misrepresentation, Bihar’s Director General of Police (DGP), Vinay Kumar, has issued a directive mandating that only the designated spokesperson of the Police Headquarters is authorised to speak to the media on behalf of the force.
The Additional Director General of Police (Headquarters), based in Patna, will serve as the sole official spokesperson. According to the order, all media interactions will be conducted through prepared press notes, publicly read out by the spokesperson. The move is aimed at ensuring the release of accurate and consistent information.

The directive explicitly bars all other police officers and personnel from giving direct statements or media bytes. Any information intended for public release must be drafted in writing and cleared by the DGP before dissemination.
The policy shift follows a series of recent incidents in which individual statements by officers led to confusion and controversy, adversely impacting the department’s credibility. The new protocol is seen as an effort to maintain message discipline and uphold the public image of the police force.
