Patna: Bihar’s deputy chief minister Vijay Kumar Sinha has rejected allegations by leader of the opposition Tejashwi Yadav that his name appears in two separate electoral rolls with two different EPIC numbers.
On Sunday, Yadav alleged that Sinha was listed as a voter in both Patna’s Bankipur constituency and Lakhisarai, with discrepancies in his recorded age.
Responding to the claims, Sinha acknowledged his name appears in two places but said he had already applied to have it removed from the Patna list. “The final voter list has not been published yet. I submitted Form-7 on 30 April 2024 to delete my name from Patna, but it has not yet been updated,” he said. Sinha produced receipts from Booth Level Officers (BLOs) to support his statement and maintained he has always voted from Lakhisarai.
He accused Yadav of “spreading confusion” and described the allegations as “false” and “politically motivated”. “BJP is the guardian of democracy. We respect constitutional institutions and do not play such games,” Sinha said, adding that the Election Commission allows a month for corrections to electoral rolls and he had acted within the process.
Sinha also criticised the opposition for undermining trust in democratic institutions. “Do not try to hide your flaws by tarnishing others. If my name appeared twice, I applied to remove it immediately,” he said.
