Patna: Dularchand Yadav, a leader of the Jan Suraj Party (JSP) from Mokama, was brutally murdered on Thursday afternoon while campaigning in Basavanchak village. Yadav, who was accompanying Jan Suraj candidate Piyush Priyadarshi, was allegedly shot before being run over by a vehicle.
Police recovered bullet marks on Yadav’s car, and heavy security was deployed in the area following the attack. The incident has sent shockwaves across the region, which remains one of the most politically sensitive constituencies in Bihar.
The family of the deceased and local JSP workers have directly accused Anant Singh, a former MLA and current JDU candidate from Mokama, of orchestrating the murder. Singh, known for his strongman image, has denied any involvement.
Patna Range Inspector General Jitendra Rana confirmed that a police team has been sent to the scene and an investigation is underway. “We are examining all angles. The situation is under control,” he said.
Shortly after the incident, Piyush Priyadarshi went live on Facebook, alleging that Anant Singh’s supporters had attacked his convoy. “The administration is silent while our people are being killed. We will fight back,” Priyadarshi said, adding that the Jan Suraj Party would not tolerate intimidation.
The killing comes amid a tense campaign in Mokama, where Anant Singh (JDU), Veena Devi (RJD) — wife of former MP Suraj Bhan Singh — and Piyush Priyadarshi (Jan Suraj Party) are locked in a triangular contest. The seat has long been associated with muscle power and violent electoral rivalries.
