Patna: India is committed to developing a modern, digital and smart power distribution system by 2030, NBPDCL managing director Rahul Kumar, IAS, said during ENLIT Asia 2026 in Indonesia.
Kumar led a delegation of the All India DISCOM Association (AIDA) during a visit to PT PLN (Indonesia Power), where Indian and international energy sector representatives discussed power distribution, grid modernisation, digital technologies and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Focus On Grid Modernisation
The Indian delegation, organised in association with the India Smart Grid Forum (ISGF), included representatives from DISCOMs across Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Punjab, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Delhi.
Discussions focused on modernising electricity grids and using digital technologies to improve the efficiency, reliability and responsiveness of power distribution systems.
Kumar also shared perspectives on India’s energy transition and initiatives aimed at modernising the power distribution sector.
AI And Digital Technologies
Kumar said grid modernisation, digital technologies and AI could play an important role in developing power distribution systems that are more efficient, reliable and future-ready.
The discussions were held against the backdrop of India’s target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based energy capacity by 2030.
Global Lessons For Bihar
ENLIT Asia 2026 brought together energy sector experts, institutions and representatives from different countries to discuss emerging technologies, smart-grid solutions and digital transformation.
The Bihar delegation’s participation provided an opportunity to examine international approaches and technologies relevant to the state’s power distribution system.
The experience is expected to support discussions around modern technologies, digital solutions and smart-grid-based systems in Bihar as the state works towards wider modernisation of its electricity infrastructure.
