Patna: Patna Women’s College (Autonomous), Patna University, hosted Delhi Lieutenant Governor Sardar Taranjit Singh Sandhu as the chief guest at an interactive programme with students on September 28.
The programme was held at Carmel Hall and brought together college officials, senior faculty members, students from the departments of History, Political Science and Economics, and NCC cadets.
Focus On Education And Skills
The programme began with a Guard of Honour presented by NCC cadets, followed by the National Song, National Anthem, ceremonial lamp lighting and a welcome song.
In her welcome address, Acting Principal Dr Sr Nelsa A.C. highlighted the college’s role in women’s education in Bihar and its focus on empowering young women through education.
Sandhu recalled visiting Patna nearly four to five decades ago and said he had earlier viewed Patna Women’s College as one of Bihar’s prestigious institutions. He emphasised the importance of institutions maintaining their reputation while adapting to changes in the education sector.
He also referred to his grandfather, Sardar Teja Singh Samundri, who established schools for girls in rural areas in 1917, while stressing the continuing importance of women’s education.
AI And Responsible Technology
Addressing students, Sandhu said education and skill development would remain important as India’s young population contributes to the country’s future and the vision of Viksit Bharat.
He urged teachers to identify and nurture the abilities of individual students and encouraged young people not to fear failure, but to learn from setbacks.
Speaking about artificial intelligence, Sandhu advised students to focus on practical applications of the technology. He also stressed responsible use of AI, saying technology should serve people rather than the other way around.
Students Discuss India’s 2047 Vision
During the interactive question-and-answer session, students asked about India’s journey towards 2047.
Sandhu highlighted creativity, innovation, skills and the ability to identify opportunities as important qualities for young people. He also referred to the development of UPI as an example of India’s digital progress.
The Lieutenant Governor was felicitated by Dr Madhu Rani Sinha, Dean, Faculty of Science, with a memento.
The programme was moderated by Dr Soofia Fatima, Dean, Faculty of Commerce and Management. Dr Sahar Rehman, Associate Professor, Department of English, delivered the vote of thanks.
The event was coordinated under the guidance of Dr Vinita Priyedarshi, ANO, NCC and Head of the Department of Political Science at Patna Women’s College.
