Patna: The monsoon is likely to become active again in Bihar from Wednesday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a yellow alert for rain in 13 districts and a specific warning of lightning in these areas.
The remaining 25 districts are likely to experience hot and humid conditions with strong sunshine during the day. However, partly cloudy skies are expected in Patna and some other areas, with the possibility of light rain in isolated places during the evening.
Several parts of Bihar received heavy rain on Tuesday evening, including Patna and Khagaria. Rainfall led to waterlogging in several parts of Khagaria. In Banka, lightning strikes reportedly killed a farmer and a labourer.
Heavy rain forecast on July 30-31
According to the weather department, most parts of Bihar could receive heavy rainfall on July 30 and 31. Eastern and border districts are likely to receive light to moderate rain during this period.
Patna and most districts in south Bihar, however, are expected to remain hot and humid, with limited rainfall activity.
Patna likely to remain mostly dry
The capital is likely to remain largely dry on Wednesday. Sunshine is expected from the morning, with humidity increasing as the day progresses. Partly cloudy skies may develop in the evening, but the chances of rainfall are low.
Bihar records 40% rainfall deficit in July
Bihar has continued to record below-normal rainfall in July. The state should have received around 474.2 mm of rainfall by July 28, but only 282.6 mm has been recorded so far, resulting in a deficit of nearly 40%.
With rainfall activity expected to increase towards the end of the week, the weather department has advised people in areas under the lightning warning to remain cautious and avoid exposed locations during thunderstorms.
